Rampa Sa Kawit

It is the month of love and in Kawit, Cavite as it celebrates the municipality’s adoption of the Gender-Fair Ordinance of the province through the biggest Pride March in Cavite called Rampa sa Kawit! Rampa na! last February 29, 2020 at the Liwasang Aguinaldo Freedom Park. 

Mayor Angelo Aguinaldo, great grandson of the former president Emilio Aguinaldo, believes that as the local executive, it is his duty to create spaces in which everyone is welcome, accepted, embraced and supported for who they are. Thus, he initiated series of activities not just for the LGBTQIA++ community in Kawit but the whole 1st District of Cavite.

The parade started at the corner of Josephine’s Resort in Barangay Panamitan at exactly 2:00 in the afternoon where around 2,700 participants in their creative attires ramped up. Color powder and water from the Kawit BFP Fire Truck were splashed in the starting point to commence the occasion. Among the participants were Mayor Angelo Aguinaldo and staff, Dept. heads, SK Chairmen, Brgy. Chairmen and SK Officials, Municipal employees, Business establishments names, NGOs, DepEd teachers and officials, Fraternities and Sororities and allies from all over the first district of Kawit. 

Four stations were marked for as a showdown area for the street dancers where they showcased diversity and the stories of the community through their dancing. The streets were filled with music, yelling and dancing as the everyone were in the moment jubilant that finally they have been recognized and given safe spaces for them to express who they are.

Organizers ensured the public that they took all the necessary measures against the threat of COVID-19 during the event. Thermal scanners and alcohols are all around the activity area to make sure that everyone will get to enjoy the event without having to fear about COVID-19.

Last stop for the parade is in Aguinaldo Shrine where the historic raising of the LGBT flag together with the Philippine flag happened. Mayor Aguinaldo together with the municipal councilors of Kawit ceremonially signed the Sangguniang Bayan Memorandum on the Official adoption of the municipality of Kawit of the Provincial Ordinance 200 or the “LGBT Community Protection and Recognition of the Province of Cavite.

In the evening, a talent completion called Rampa Sa Kawit Amazing Talent Show happened were 10 contestants that were pre-screened joined the competition. Celebrity guests Francine Garcia, JM Canillas, Mark Manicad, Showtime’s Miss Q & A Juliana Parizcova Segovia and social media superstar Senyora Santibañez graced the occasion as the judge in the Amazing Talent Show. Singer Tombi took the first prize amounting to Php50,000. While the dance group Angeliosfero and James Clariza took the second and third place respectively.

Queens of all outfits and getups graced the stage as members of the LGBTQIA+++ in the first district of Cavite flaunted the beauty and creativity of the community. Three contestants were given best costume award and the rest went home with consolation prizes. 

Laughter filled the night as comedians and proud LGBT members Juliana Parizcova Segovia and Francine Garcia did an impromptu comedy skit throwing jokes at one another.

Momentarily, Mayor Angelo Aguinaldo announced the winners of the Streetdance competition with Tanghalan Tiera Alta as the 2nd runner up, Dauntless Republic as 1st runner up and Messias de Cavite as this year’s champion.

The event is made possible by the local government of Kawit, Municipal Department of Social Welfare and Development (MSWD), and Kawit Public Information Office (Kawit PIO) and in partnership with the LGBT communities of Noveleta, Rosario and Cavite City.

The Rampa Sa Kawit! Event will be hosted by ABS-CBN Star Patroller and Kawit Ambassadress Ganiel Krishnan and MOR’s DJ Jaiho.
